Course Overview

‘Fasting’ means that one abstains from eight things – from the start of the time of morning (subh) prayers1 until the time of sunset (maghrib) in humility and obedience to the Lord of the worlds. This lecture aims to explain the fasting law and its conditions which are necessary for Muslims to know.

About the Scholar

Sayed Saleh Qazwini hails from a prominent religious family from Iraq. He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1994. After completing high school in San Diego, Sayed Qazwini moved to Iran where he studied in the Islamic seminary of Qom. His studies focused primarily on Islamic Jurisprudence and Islamic Scripture. After completing his studies, he returned to the United States and acquired a bachelors degree in sociology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a Masters degree in Near Eastern Studies from Wayne State University.

Currently, he lectures weekly at several mosques and community centers in Michigan. He travels to numerous communities across the globe spreading the message of Islam and religious tolerance. Sayed Saleh Qazwini also teaches courses on Islamic ideology and Quranic studies. He is married and has three children.
